Murat Erder is a Director at Deutsche Bank, and is currently working in Data Engineering group as part of the Chief Data Office. Before this role he led the Integration Services group at Deutsche Bank responsible for all managed services that dealt with integration; including core messaging, file transfer, ETL, Enterprise Service Bus, Workflow and Document Management. Murat also setup the Technology Standards group at Deutsche Bank and governed adoption of new technologies. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Murat worked for 13 years for management consulting organizations, including KPMG/BearingPoint and Deloitte providing architecture and technology strategy advice to leading Financial Services organizations. Murat started his career as a software developer in Silicon Valley and was employed as a Software Development Lifecycle and Object Oriented Analysis and Design specialist by Objectory and Rational. Murat has a MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of MassachusettsPierre Pureur is Vice President and Chief Enterprise Architect for Travelers. In his role, Pierre leads the Enterprise Architecture group that includes Application Platform Architecture, Information Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Performance Architecture and Security Architecture. Full disclosure, I know both of the authors and not long ago worked for one of the authors for several years. However, before that, I was in a different and large tech company where I worked as a software architect, systems architect or security architect for 20 years. I find that this book is a very good reference for me. It consolidates long standing as well as new ideas for architects. The content is helpful for considering as architects work on large or small activities, big or small teams, XP or Agile, while still trying to apply architectural thinking and decision making to help improve what is being delivered to the customer. No doubt the role of architecture is always changing in IT initiatives in a company. Making sure architects have a range of ideas and options to consider when trying to find the right amount of architecture thinking, artifacts, reviews, etc. for a solution can help us deliver what our stakeholders need. If you already know much of this material, a quick read can refresh your memory or provide a new twist for applying an architectural technique. If you're getting started as an architect, it's a solid reference to keep handy on the bookshelf. And, if you have new ideas you think the book should address, feel free to chime in or contact the authors. The evolving practice of architecture in modern IT environments will always need continuous improvement.

This is a timely book that looks at Software Architecture in the light of the move many companies are making to Agile development. It's a wide-ranging work that examines everything from what we mean by software architecture to what personality traits make a good architect to which tools and methodologies can help architects working with agile teams.The authors contend that as software development moves to agile processes and cloud based environments with a focus on continuous deployment, architecture needs to evolve as well. Next the authors look at Continuous Delivery and offer advice on how good design can lead to applications that are easy to quickly build, test, and deploy. Then they look at Validating the Architecture, how that can be done and what tools can help with it. Afterwards is a case study to show examples of the ideas they've presented. And later there are chapters on Enterprise Architecture and one I found particularly interesting on the Role of the Architect and what kind of person makes a good architect.And everything is presented in a spirit of helping the development teams build applications. This is not about theory, it's about getting work done.In the interest of full disclosure I want to note that I work at the same company as Pierre.

A great perspective on how to architect Agile and Continuous Delivery Projects.As we move away from waterfall and other obsolete and risk prone methods of software delivery, we need to think about how software architecture can coexist with modern methodologies such as SAFE and Extreme Agile. This book provides an excellent, practical and easy to use set of principles and tools that guide practitioners toward designing a new kind of software architecture: one that can be defined and evolved incrementally and continuously across a series of rapid releases. This book is full of new and actionable insights, and the case studies throughout the book are especially helpful. For example, I found the case study described in Chapter 7 very useful.As a side note, the quotes at the beginning of each chapter are both entertaining and thought provoking. This is a great addition to my library!

There is no question that the IT industry is shifting away from traditional enterprise architecture approaches in favor of more agile user centric techniques. About the Author

Dr. Vasant Lad, BAMS, MASc, brings a wealth of classroom and practical experience to the United States. He received the degree of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pune, in Pune, India in 1968 and a master of Ayurvedic science from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Pune, India in 1980. He served for three years as medical director of the Ayurveda Hospital in Pune, India. He also held the position of professor of clinical medicine for seven years at the Pune University College of Ayurvedic Medicine, where he was an instructor for many years. Dr. Lad's academic and practical training includes the study of allopathic medicine (Western medicine) and surgery as well as traditional Ayurveda. In 1979, he began traveling throughout the United States sharing his knowledge of Ayurveda, and in 1981, he returned to New Mexico to teach Ayurveda. In 1984, he founded and began his position as principal instructor and director of The Ayurvedic Institute.

The book is OK maybe because I do not have an Ayurvedic background. Some of the materials are clear, but some materials are unclear and needed to be explained by the author in more detail. It is harder to learn to read the pulse unless you have a teacher so you can ask questions. So, I took the Summer Intensive seven day Pulse Reading Practicum in June 2015 from Dr. Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute. Now, the book makes more sense and easy to understand.Notice: Some editions on page 34 have a misprint for the left hand on the seventh level: Kapha (Spleen), Pitta (Heart), and Vata (Kidney). So, if you didn’t take the class you would have read the wrong pulse for the seventh level or you could of have looked at page 35 to verify.The correction for page 34 should be Kapha (Kidney), Pitta (Spleen), and Vata (Heart) at the seventh level.

I like this book for its concise yet detailed writing. The images help a lot and the explanation of Ayurveda makes it special to me. It does require a lot of practice so those who think its a magic, please do not try pulse reading.This book helps.

I found this book very informative and helpful. I have put some of its knowledge into work already. Nonetheless, of course, it is very hard to teach the subtle intricasies of taking Ayurvedic pulses without a direct teacher. One day I hope to find one. This book probably does as well as anything can in the meanwhile, and it is nice to see such a througoh collection of these technqiues on paper. Glad I bought it.

I am studying Ayurveda and I was sure this would be a good addition to learning everything I can about Ayurveda.

Simo Hayha (1905 - 2002) is the most famous sniper in the world. He is a sniper with a capital S. For sniping Simo Hayha used his own m/28-30 rifle the whole time. Simo was wounded on March 6 1940. Tapio Saarelainen, the author of this book, is a career officer in the Finnish Army. He has spent two decades in training snipers. The author has spent lots of time investigating Simo's life and accomplishments and he's interviewed Simo dozens of times during 1997-2002.

About the Author
Rebecca Elliott has a Masters Degree in Statistics from Purdue University. She began her career with General Motors, supporting Current Product Manufacturing. She moved to Salt Lake City where she taught statistics at the University of Utah and developed the precursor to Learning SAS in the Computer Lab. She spent one year working for a survey research firm. She also provided statistical support through independent consulting. A native Hoosier, she has worked in Indianapolis for the past 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry supporting the manufacture of injectible drugs. Rebecca enjoys hiking in the desert, creating art with fabric, rooting for her team the WNBA Indiana Fever, traveling to sunny spots, and being on a spiritual path.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Christopher Morrell obtained a bachelor's degree at the University of Cape Town and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since then he has been a member of the Mathematical Sciences Department at Loyola College in Maryland, and teaches various undergraduate statistics courses. In addition, he was chair of the department from 2000 through 2006. Professor Morrell's research involves statistical models that are used to describe repeated observations from longitudinal studies of aging. His statistical work has appeared in Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrics, Technometrics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series A & C, The American Statistician, Statistics in Medicine, and Communications in Statistics. He is also a co-author (with colleagues from the National Institute on Aging) on research that has appeared in numerous medical journals.

I am a CPA and an Excel power user. I feel strongly about being "Fair" with my review. I made the mistake of buying "Power Pivot and Power BI: The Excel User's Guide to DAX, Power Query, Power BI & Power Pivot in Excel 2010-2016" as the first book to learn Power Queries and Power Pivot. While it's not a bad book, I found the "Learn to Write DAX" to be a much better book. It is much better at explaining the basics of how to use Power Pivots. If I had to do over again, I would buy "M is for (Data) Monkey" first. It's an excellent book. Power Queries are needed to bring data into Excel before creating Power Pivots. I would buy "Learn to Write DAX" second, also an excellent book. I've read all of these books twice.

I use Microsoft Excel everyday and consider myself a power user. I was not aware of the impact and how easy power pivot made my job and creating beautiful dashboards in BI with things that took hours to now minutes. This book took me on journey of teaching me things at my own pace and displaying the examples so anyone can follow.GREAT BOOK

I have read the "first half" of this book at least 6 times now! Every time I read it, I got a little farther in my understanding and ability to use the concepts in my everyday work. Just today, after owning the book for almost 2 1/2 years and using it repeatedly as a reference guide, I finished the entire book with full understanding. Learning how to write DAX in Power Pivot has transformed my work, and this book has been my steady number one go-to reference among several books on Power BI that I have ordered over 2 1/2 years.I decided to write a review today, because I want to share how important it is to take this in small pieces, and really use the power of self-discovery for many of the lessons in Rob and Avi's book. The book is very well written, in easy conversational tone, yet some of the concepts are very hard to grasp, and require lots of hands-on absorption to really understand. I now have a solid 2 1/2 years of intensive hands-on data modelling in Power Pivot under my belt. I have attended public classes, worked with a consultant on a big Power BI project, watched many you-tube videos, read and written blogs, and I even host a couple of Power BI user groups at my office. And yet STILL today, as I read all the way to the end of the book with full understanding for the first time, I caught some new concepts and had to think about it and absorb. This is a both a book for beginners, and it is a book for advanced users to absorb over time. I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you need to learn POWER BI - this is the book to read. Well written. Concise and precise explanations. Well illustrated. Clear, televant, excellent graphics. Complete explanations - unlike other similar books on the subject which cover the subject in very haphazardly and fail to provide clear instructions.

Early on the book indicates that you can turn away now and would be completely fine with the knowledge received. I would admit that at this point a lot of the content felt familiar as being a dabbler in Power Pivot but man am I glad I kept reading. Everything after those words I would describe as being turned up to 11. The content was fantastic throughout but the later chapters really drove home the mindset when approaching calculations in your data models. In order to dive even deeper into the concepts I'm adding the Power Pivot Pro blog to my must read list as well. 11/10 would recommend.

I've been using Power BI for about a year, and this is the first book I've read for it - I picked up a handful of concepts that have been very useful. Useful enough that I'm going to go back over it a 2nd time now.If I compare it to other Power BI Books - well I don't know, like I said this is the first I've read on this subject!If I compare it to other educational books I've read - it's great! Maybe Power BI is just a really easy subject to write on...I kinda doubt that though.

Wow! This book is absolutely wonderful. The authors provide an in depth explanation of how and why Power Pivot and Power BI work. Nice layout of the material, examples, pictures, and explainations. This takes my data crunching and reporting to a new level. This is a highly recommended book. It is not for the beginner, but more for the moderate to advanced users; some basic understanding of pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis would be suggested.

Definitely a must read for the new world of reporting. I have 10+ year working in Fiance and DAX is revolutionizing the way we work. It is just amazing the power of this new engine. Power Pivot and Power BI from Rob and Avichal is fantastic guide to start get familiarized with the most important features of DAX and PBI. Easy to understand and well structured, the book has been a important support for me in my day-to-day modeling and reporting tasks. You do not need to be a expert in Excel, SQL or VBA to get plenty of advantage of what the Authors introduce here. I have read the book the first time in one row but I keep this always with me. I have the E-book what is a an advantage. I strongly recommend together with Rob's blog powerpivotpro.com.
